According to officials, the first step in applying for disaster assistance through the programs coordinated by OEM and FEMA is to call FEMA's toll-free number: 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), TTY 1-800-462-7565 for the speech- and hearing-impaired. The line is staffed from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week. Registration can also be accomplished online at www.fema.gov. Information requested on the application includes Social Security number, insurance company or agent and policy number and bank account information for those who wish to receive direct deposit. Those who wish may register by phone at the Disaster Recovery Center.
After registering, applicants may visit the Disaster Recovery Center to talk face-to-face with representatives from state and federal agencies and find answers to questions they may have about the recovery process.
SBA representatives will be at the center to meet individually with each resident or business owner to answer questions about the SBA disaster loan program, help them complete their disaster loan application and accept their completed applications. Anyone not able to visit a center should call 1-800-659-2955 or visit the SBA Web site at www.sba.gov/services/disasterassistance.
Scam artists
State and federal officials caution those who were affected by the May10-13 disaster in Craig, Latimer, Ottawa and Pittsburg counties to be wary of callers and visitors who ask for personal and financial information, as well as access and money. Scam artists often come into areas following disasters.
One common ploy is for scammers to call those affected by disaster and express a need to collect or verify bank account information. Others include coming to homes and misrepresenting themselves in order to gain entrance. Still another is asking for pay to aid applicants in getting their assistance. And yet another is posing as a contractor, asking for full or partial pay upfront and taking the money without doing the work or without doing the work correctly.
According to OEM and FEMA officials, special procedures are used whenever they obtain personal or financial information from applicants. Applicants who call the toll-free registration number at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585, or who register at www.fema.gov can be certain that their information is secure. A bank account number will be discussed only if an applicant asks the government agency to make a direct deposit.

New Camping Rates for State Parks
Oklahoma State Parks will be adjusting their maximum rates for certain camping sites. This sets maximum combined utility fees at a total of $20 and adds a new premium campsite fee with a maximum rate of $15. "This fee structure will continue to be assessed on a per use basis by campground visitors and will not greatly impact the total price current campers pay at our state parks, said Watkins. The increase in camping fees will make the fee collection process easier, help obtain consistency across the park system, and make the Oklahoma State Park camping fees comparable with similar properties in our region. Camping fees have not been adjusted since 2001.

The Pen and Ink Drawings of Earl Biss
From the richness of the permanent collection, Assistant Curator Carole Klein
has selected 52 black and white drawings by artist Earl Biss (1947-1998) to
display. Most measure 9 x 12 inches and explore the expressionistic nuance of
shadow and light affected by dark ink on paper. Acquired in 2004, these images
are on view at Gilcrease Museum for the first time.
A variety of themes present themselves - warriors in the Montana landscape of
the Crow Reservation, people going about everyday farming tasks or waiting for
a train, individuals coping with pain and sorrow, and horses, particularly spotted ones, creating a line of rhythmic movement across the page. While Biss is primarily known for his paintings, these small slices of life bear close scrutiny. There is nothing flat or static about
his pen strokes, and in many, the ink application offers a paint-like texture.
The pieces were produced in 1992 and 1993.
