and a Joint Task Force Exercise (JTFEX). The JTFEX is the final step in

coalition forces.

Coast Guard Seaman Daniel J. Boyd, son of Kimberly K.
Merrill of Tulsa, Okla. and Robin D. Boyd of La Mesa, Calif., recently
graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May,
N. J.
During the eight-week training program, Boyd completed a vigorous
training curriculum consisting of academics and practical instruction on
water safety and survival, military customs and courtesies, seamanship
skills, first aid, fire fighting and marksmanship. A major emphasis is
also placed on physical fitness, health and wellness.
Boyd and other recruits also received instruction on the Coast Guard's
core values -- honor, respect and devotion to duty -- and how to apply
them in their military performance and personal conduct. Boyd will join
36, 000 other men and women who comprise Coast Guard's force.
Men and women train together from the first day in the Coast Guard just
as they do aboard ships and shore units throughout the world. To reinforce
the team concept, Boyd, and other recruits were trained in preventing
sexual harassment, drug and alcohol awareness, civil rights training, and
the basics of the work-life balance, as well as total quality management.

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Michael W. Haber, Jr,
son of Kimberly D. Haber of Madison Heights, Va. and Michael W. Haber, Sr
of Tulsa, Okla., recently graduated from the Navy's Nuclear Power School
at Naval Nuclear Power Training Command, Goose Creek, S. C.
During the six-month course, Haber received fundamental training in
several technical fields related to the nuclear power program. Haber
studied mathematics and physics for three months in preparation for
hands-on training later in the course. In the latter half of the course,
Haber spent hours becoming familiar with nuclear reactor theory and
operations.
With his newly acquired knowledge, Haber is prepared to operate a
reactor on a nuclear powered submarine or aircraft carrier, ensuring the
availability of propulsion and power.
Haber is a 2006 graduate of Brookville High School of Lynchburg, Va. and
joined the Navy in December 2006.

Ashley M. Sizemore has joined the United States Air Force under the Delayed Entry Program. The program gives young men and women the opportunity to enlist and delay going into basic military training for up to one year.

Crawford is a navigator regularly assigned to the 963rd Airborne Air Control Squadron at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma City, Okla. The lieutenant has served in the military for two years.
He is the son of Rick J. and Mary J. Crawford of North 162nd East Ave., Collinsville, Okla.
His wife, Deanna, is the daughter of Jerry M. and Lynne R. Beck of Lewisberry Road, York, Pa.

Navy Seaman Recruit Terresa A. Trimble, daughter of
Janet L. and Terrell W. Trimble of Okmulgee, Okla., recently completed
U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
During the eight-week program, Trimble completed a variety of training
which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs,
first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and
aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.
The capstone event of boot camp is "Battle Stations". This exercise
gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the
fleet. "Battle Stations" is designed to galvanize the basic warrior
attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each
recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the
core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment. Its distinctly ''Navy''
flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a Sailor.
Trimble is a 2004 graduate of Beggs High School of Beggs, Okla.

Navy Chief Petty Officer Matthew J. Smith, son of
Michele Penn of Broken Arrow, Okla., and his fellow shipmates recently
participated in two community relations projects during a port visit while
assigned to the guided-missile destroyer USS Higgins homeported at Naval
Station San Diego.
While in Mangilao District, Guam, some Sailors provided care at the Guam
Animals-In-Need shelter by walking, bathing, and playing with the dogs and
cats. They also painted, cleaned and performed yardwork throughout the
shelter grounds which helped to create a more favorable environment for
many homeless animals available for adoption.
Other Higgins crew members participated in beautification projects in
areas surrounding city offices, including the office of Mangilao Mayor
Nito Blas. Volunteers constructed a retaining wall to prevent mudslides
and erosion from impacting a little-league baseball field and knocked down
two dilapidated structures to rid the children's playground of potential
hazards.
Higgins is currently deployed with the Nimitz Carrier Strike Group and is
operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet operating area. The primary mission of the
ship is to provide multi-mission offensive and defensive capabilities.
Higgins is capable of operating independently or as part of a strike
group. Its flexibility provides presence with a purpose and strike power
to support joint and allied forces afloat and ashore.
Smith is a 1990 graduate of Red Mountain High School of Mesa, Ariz. and
joined the Navy in August 1990.

Army National Guard Pvt. Ricky D. Myers has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.
Myers is the son of Rick and Cindi Robertson of South 53rd East Ave., Bixby, Okla.

Air Force Tech. Sgt. Michael S. Whitten has been promoted to the rank of technical sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.
Whitten is a training and marketing sergeant for the 349th Recruiting Squadron at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma City, Okla. The technical sergeant has served in the military for 10 years.

Matthew W. Welsh has joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry Program. The program gives young men and women the opportunity to delay entering active duty for up to one year.
The enlistment gives the new soldier the option to learn a new skill, travel and become eligible to receive as much as $50,000 toward a college education. After completion of basic military training, soldiers receive advanced individual training in their career job specialty prior to being assigned to their first permanent duty station.
The recruit, a prior-service member, enlisted for three years and will report to Goodfellow Air Force Base, San Angelo, Texas, for Advanced Individual Training in March 2008.
