What the Bible Says About Singleness

Are you a single Christian? Unfortunately, it can be difficult to be a Christian who is an adult and unmarried in the Church at times. Sometimes it seems like God has brought almost everyone else a partner and perhaps you’re wondering where your person is? Or perhaps you’re feeling content in your singleness and value the gifts and freedom that come with it.

Either way, the Bible has several things to say about singleness. Wherever your heart is, meditate on these verses and be honest with God in your prayers. You never know the what he is going to teach you as you grow in your love for him.

Matthew 6:33  “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

John 15: 5  “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

Hosea 2:19-20  “I will betroth you to me forever; I will betroth you in righteousness and justice, in love and compassion.  I will betroth you in faithfulness, and you will acknowledge the Lord.”

Isaiah 41:10  “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

John 15:16-17  “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. This is my command: Love each other.”

1 Timothy 6:6-8  “But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.”

Lamentations 3:25  “The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him.”

2 Peter 3:18  “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and forever! Amen.”
