The Armor of God: Why You Need It and How to Use It

In Ephesians 6:10-18, Paul talks about the armor of God and how Christians should use it daily to take a stand against the devil and grow in their faith. But what does putting on the armor of God mean?

Belt of Truth

Roman soldiers would wear belts in battle, girding their loins and tucking in their garments to prevent tripping. For Christians, this means delving into scripture and asking God for guidance. Memorize key verses to stop spiritual attacks from tripping you up.

Breastplate of Righteousness

The breastplate of righteousness comes from our faith in Christ. It’s our assurance that no matter what we do or don’t do, Jesus has made us righteous and sees us as perfect and holy. Your breastplate will protect you from letting shame and past sin impact your walk.

Shoes of Peace

Christians are at peace because they trust in the salvation Christ has promised. Never go into battle without your shoes on and laced tightly. The peace of Christ should start from your shoes on up.

Shield of Faith

As a Christian, your trust should be in Christ. If you place too much trust in material things, your faith will be shaky. Prayer, study, and time with other Christians can strengthen your faith.

Helmet of Salvation

Wearing this helmet is different from a bicycle helmet, but its purpose is the same: protection. Your salvation is one thing Satan can’t touch.

Sword of the Spirit

This is the Bible, our only offensive weapon. As such, it’s crucial. Read scripture often, and take it to heart. Using a version you understand will help, too.
